Hyouka - Bike Ride

In episode 4 of Hyouka we see Hotaro and Satoshi riding their bicycles out to Chitanda's house, so I did the same thing. The easiest way to do this is to rent an actual bicycle from one of the many bicycle shop in Takayama and use that.

I've ordered the pictures from the north west to south east starting here at Sukerokubashi Bridge which crosses the Enakogawa River close to Kawakami Residence Historical Park.

Hotaro is cycling in front of this small playground. The blue swing shown in the second screenshot seems to have been removed.

I took this picture from the Kawakami Residence Historical Park showing the area across the river. The buildings shown in the anime has been replaced with a parking lot.

The building on the left here is gone as well, but the others still match.

Image from Episode 4 - 03m41s

The right side here matches except for the big sign next to the utility pole.

The other side of the big sign actually matches more. Some of the buildings on the right in this direction also seems to be closer in look to the buildings shown on the left in the screenshot from the anime above.

This place with the torii gate is shown in episode 5 when they're on their way back from Chitanda's house. It's located in between the places shown in episode 4 though, so I've added it here.

Image from Episode 4 - 04m30s

Back to episode 4 and everything here matches, except the house on the left that's been removed.

There's only the foundation left of the house that used to be here.

Image from Episode 4 - 05m13s

The road leading up to Chitanda's house which is shown in the middle of the screenshot here.

Image from Episode 4 - 05m08s

The road is on a slight incline as seen in this picture.

Image from Episode 4 - 05m04s

Similar looking fields. I've marked a path through all the locations ending up here in the map below.

The actual house is located elsewhere in Japan, so in real life there's a shrine called Sakuragaoka Hachiman Shrine here.

Your Name - Train Crossing

I also checked out a bunch of Your Name locations in Nagano, starting with the train crossing that was supposedly shown in the movie, which is located close to Otabe Station in real life. Image from Your Name - 10m56s This is the angle that seems to match the most compared to what was shown in the movie, but the screenshot is flipped and there's some elements missing. Image from Your Name - 10m56s This is the screenshot as shown in the movie. You can see the similar looking metal utility box in the picture here. Image from Your Name - 31m08s I also took a picture from the opposite side so the metal utility box position matches when the screenshot is flipped. Image from Your Name - 31m08s There's a sign with a 7 on it here, but it's not in the same location as in the movie. Image from Your Name - 31m08s I also took a picture from the road, then the metal utility box position matches, but the road and railway track is switched. Flying Witch - Manga Covers

Although I don't normally do manga locations, I did check out some of the locations shown on the Flying Witch covers this time. Flying Witch Cover 1 This is at a shrine named Gankisan Shrine. I've marked this location in the map below. Flying Witch Cover 2 This is at Hirosaki Park on the other side of the moat from the bench shown in the anime. Flying Witch Cover 5 This is at the entrance of the house where Nao lives . Flying Witch Cover 6 And finally, this is down by the river near the nursery school close to the bridge shown in the anime OP. Location map: These locations were visited on 2019/04/24 and 2019/04/25. Girls und Panzer - Tank Club Shop

The Tank Club Shop in episode 2 of Girls und Panzer is based on a real place in Tokyo, so I went to have a look. The closest train station is Ichigaya Station. Image from Episode 2 - 09m12s The building still looks the same. Image from Episode 2 - 09m10s Unfortunately the shop itself, which was called Norimono Club in real life, closed down in 2017. It was run by the publisher Ikaros Publications which still is located here. Image from Episode 2 - 09m18s There's no buildings on the other side of the street in real life.
